Visit the Starkey Ranch TLC to view original artworks by local artist, Marilyn Wescott for her exhibit, "My Florida".
About the exhibit:
A lifelong resident of Florida,Marilyn has witnessed first-hand the impact of urban development on the wild areas of the Sunshine State. Using transparent watercolor and a full range of values she strives to make visible the essence of Florida as she sees and feels it. “There is a wildness to this place that I love. It co-exists with the manicured version of Florida – from alligators in golf course ponds to cypress stands in the middle of subdivisions to manatees in an urban bayou. It’s these pockets of the ‘real Florida’ that I am inspired to capture. The subtropical flora and fauna of Florida’s west coast provide unlimited inspiration for my paintings, and "My Florida" includes a selection of those paintings. My goal is to make visible the essence of nature as I see and feel it, with the hope that my interpretation will speak to someone else.”
In this workshop, we will learn about the exquisite corpse
drawing method and create our own drawings inspired
by surrealist artists like Dalí. What is exquisite corpse? Learn more here: https://www.moma.org/collection/terms/exquisite-corpse.
