About the exhibit:
A lifelong resident of Florida, Marilyn has witnessed first-hand the impact of urban development on the wild areas of the Sunshine State. Using transparent watercolor and a full range of values she strives to make visible the essence of Florida as she sees and feels it. “There is a wildness to this place that I love. It co-exists with the manicured version of Florida – from alligators in golf course ponds to cypress stands in the middle of subdivisions to manatees in an urban bayou. It’s these pockets of the ‘real Florida’ that I am inspired to capture. The subtropical flora and fauna of Florida’s west coast provide unlimited inspiration for my paintings, and "My Florida" includes a selection of those paintings. My goal is to make visible the essence of nature as I see and feel it, with the hope that my interpretation will speak to someone else.”
