Qigong is an ancient Chinese health practice that uses stretching, slow movements and deep breathing to revitalize mind, body and spirit. It has been used to help people suffering from anxiety, insomnia, back pain, joint pain, breathing problems, PTSD, arthritis and more. All postures can be done standing up or seated in a chair. Everything can be adapted to individual needs.
During January and February, classes will be on the Patio outside of the Loft if weather permits.
Classes will be lead by Sarah from Awaken Tai Chi. She has over a decade of experience practicing Qigong, Tai Chi and other forms of combat arts and moving meditation. She enjoys teaching beginners and helping people adapt movements and postures to suit the bodies they live in.

Learn to Paint and Draw (Better): Subject Study

5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Centennial Park Library
Loft

Join Earthchild Sarah every week to learn about the foundations that good art is built on.

In May we discover the value of truly studying a subject in depth. Students will pick a single subject and draw it every day for a month until they have mastered it. This technique has been used by masters throughout the ages and is still popular in the form of social media challenges.

This is not a follow the leader or paint by numbers art class! Complete beginners to intermediate artists can come get expert guidance from someone who has been in the arts for nearly four decades. We cover the fundamentals of art with carefully selected topics to allow students to master one element at a time. The building blocks of all good art are the same: composition, color, harmony, balance, focus, proportions, tone, edge, space, perspective, concept, etc. Learn how to improve your technique in acrylics, pastels, watercolor, graphite and charcoal and more by going back to the basics. You can work on the suggested projects and exercises or bring in your art for advice and guidance on how to improve. Questions are welcome, community is encouraged. Materials are provided.

If you register and are unable to make it, please notify the library at least 48 hours in advance to be considerate of those on the wait list. The session runs for the whole month and registering for the first one will automatically register you for the rest of the month. Most of the instruction takes place during the first lesson of the month, followed by practice. If you can't make the first lesson, you will not be able to get the full benefit.
